Crimewood: For the Educated Citizen

Lakewood resident Matthew Hockey, 30, was found dead due to a skull fracture Sunday in his third floor apartment at 1274 Bonnieview Ave. Hockey was assaulted by Derrick Dykas, 23, of Ypsilanti, Mich., at 2:20 a.m. Saturday in front of Johnny Malloys Bar, 17103 Detroit Ave. Hockey and Dykas held a heated verbal exchange inside the bar before meeting out in front. Dykas punched Hockey one time and then left with friends. Hockey received a skull fracture from the fight. He left with friends to go home and stayed up a little while before going to sleep. Family members found him dead at his home Sunday morning. Dykas was arrested and charged with murder, with bond set at $100,000. Dykas was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to three years in prison.
