About Crimewood
Three incidents led to the creation of this Web site:
- April 28, 2007. Off-duty FBI agent
Brian Vigneaux was shot on Wyandotte Ave. in a botched late night
robbery attempt by to two assailants.
- July 7, 2007. Robert Joslin was
shot in the head and killed by Nathaniel Williams, Jr. inside the
McDonald’s on Sloane Ave. after an ongoing domestic dispute involving
Williams’ wife.
-
September 25, 2007. Justin Lee was
shot by Francisco Rodriguez Jr. in a parking lot
on Cook Ave, near Detroit Rd. The shooting was drug-related. Lee later
died from his injuries.
On May 9, 2007 – 11 days after the Wyandotte incident – I registered
the domain name Crimewood.com with the general intention of doing
something to become more informed about crime and other quality of life
issues in Lakewood. It took several months of tinkering before the Web
site went live on December 23, 2007.
The purpose of Crimewood.com is to empower Lakewood citizens to become
more informed about crime in their neighborhood. Educated citizens make
for good citizens.
Where does the crime data come from?
All of the crime information is public record and originates from the
Lakewood Police Department. The crime blotter is taken directly from
the police department’s media log. The log is available for review
every day of the week by any member of the public.
